As part of a strategic planning exercise, MQG management needed a clear idea of what the optimal life of the quarry pit shell would look like and how extraction should be staged to maximise the value of their deposit.
On the back of a detailed drilling and sampling program, a highly detailed numerical model of sand grades was created. Concurrently, a market research study was conducted to ensure there was a clear idea of market volumes and prices.
With these two data sources well understood, the optimization process was carried out using the Deswik Psuedoflow algorithm, resulting in a clear idea of resource tonnes, the value of the material, where to place future infrastructure and how the site should develop to maximise value.
